# Personal Account Sign-Up
> Step-by-step guide to creating a Devdraft personal account, from email verification through claiming a tag and starting KYC verification.
# Overview
Creating a Devdraft personal account takes you through email verification, password creation, entity-type selection, personal details, phone verification, and claiming a payment tag. Once registration is complete, you'll need to complete a separate **KYC (Know Your Customer)** process before virtual accounts and banking features become available.

Completing registration is **not** the same as completing KYC. The dashboard shown at the end of registration states that KYC verification must be completed before you can create virtual accounts or use banking features.
This guide covers signup through the point where KYC begins. It does not cover the KYC steps themselves (documents, selfie, review) — see the identity verification guide for that once you select **Verify**.
## Before You Start

Phone verification can be skipped during signup, but the screen displays a notice that it will be **required from October 1, 2026**. Check the live app for the current requirement.

## Step 1 — Start Signup
Open the Devdraft app and select **Sign up** (not **Log in**) on the welcome screen. Choose a sign-up method:
* **Continue with email**
* **Continue with Google**
This guide follows the email path, which shows the full verification sequence.

## Step 2 — Verify Your Email
On **"Let's verify your email address,"** enter your email address and select **Continue**. A verification code is sent to that address.
Double-check the address is spelled correctly before continuing — the next step ties the code to the address shown on screen, and there's no change-email option after the code is sent.

## Step 3 — Enter the Email Code
On **"Enter OTP,"** enter the 6-digit verification code sent to your email, then select **Continue**.
If the code doesn't arrive, select **Didn't receive code?** to request a new one, and use only the most recently sent code.

## Step 4 — Create a Password
On **"Create a password,"** enter and confirm your password.

Use the eye icon on each field to check your entry, then select **Continue**.

## Step 5 — Choose Your Account Type
On **"Select your entity type,"** choose between **Personal account** and **Business account**.
Select **Personal account** to continue with this flow.
If you're registering on behalf of a company, use the **Business account** path instead — later screens in the personal flow only collect an individual's name and country of residence, not business details.

## Step 6 — Enter Personal Details
On **"Enter your details,"** provide:

Below the fields are two separate acknowledgements:
* **Marketing emails** — optional; leave unchecked to opt out of promotional communications
* **Terms of Service and Privacy Policy** — required to register; review both before accepting
Select **Finish** to continue to phone verification.

## Step 7 — Verify Your Phone Number
On **"Verify your phone number,"** select your country code and enter your mobile number, then select **Continue** to receive an SMS code — or select **Skip for now** to defer this step.
This screen displays a notice that phone verification will be **required from October 1, 2026** — deferring now may only be temporary.

## Step 8 — Claim Your Tag
On **"Pick your tag,"** enter a handle after the **@** symbol.

Wait for the **Available** status, then select **Claim \[tag]** — or select **Skip for now** to defer claiming one.
A tag is a short payment handle others use to send you money, without needing your email address. Choose a clear, non-sensitive handle — the change process for an existing tag isn't shown in this flow.

## Step 9 — Registration Complete
The dashboard opens with **"Registration Complete"** and the headline **"Start receiving payments on your virtual account."** It also states:
> "You need to complete KYC verification to create virtual accounts and use banking features."
The dashboard shows **USD Account** and **Named Account** tiles, along with a virtual-bank-account notice and a **Verify** button.
Select **Verify** when you're ready to begin KYC.
Finishing registration doesn't mean a virtual account already exists, or that phone verification is complete if you skipped it. The account tiles are an invitation to activate features — KYC is the actual prerequisite.

Keep email and SMS verification codes private, and only create your account through the official Devdraft app.
